The 14th annual Metro ON Line conference took place on May 13-17, 2019 in the congress facilities of the AquaCity Poprad resort. It was a technology conference where you learned more about new trends in telecommunications, cybersecurity, Industry 4.0 and modern Smart solutions that will help our planet. This year was complemented by the views of security experts on various IT areas as well as the phenomena of blockchain, augmented and virtual reality, artificial intelligence and their use in practice. Representatives of local governments, broadband streaming services, global technology leaders, television and telecommunications associations spoke in panel discussions, where hot topics of recent times were discussed.
The conference was sponsored by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Investments and Informatization and the Slovak Ice Hockey Association, and one of the main topics was the support of sports and IT in the educational process of young people.
The aim of the conference was also to support socially disadvantaged groups of the population, to educate and motivate young people and their active involvement in social challenges, and to enable access to the ethical development of their talents and creativity. Thanks to this, over 500 talented young athletes and IT students were given the opportunity to participate in the conference free of charge, and topics that our society often does not accept with great interest were opened up. At the same time, we financially supported young talents from socially disadvantaged families, the implementation of student projects in the (f)ITcubator, the rescue of endangered species of animals, and the development of ecotourism in the Tokaj wine region.
